Eva Cambodia

Eva Cambodia" was her Facebook name. I met Eva one evening at the Heart of Darkness, an LGBT bar on Street 51 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. New to Cambodia and navigating a difficult time in my life, I was intrigued by Eva, a ladyboy who lived as a boy by day and a ladyboy by night, yearning to embrace her true identity full-time. She mirrored my own struggles in many ways. Being a ladyboy in Cambodia is less accepted than in Thailand, making her a troubled yet kind soul. We spent much time together, and I captured her story of culture, identity, and intimacy.
